Scalderskew

Our Grisedale shepherd hut travels to its new home in the most remote farm in the Lake District.

For those holiday-makers searching for true escapism with soft touches of comfort and luxury. Delivering to the remotest farm in the Lake District was a challenge accepted by our team, in fact it was second nature to them!

The brief

In February 2021, when the Whitakers (Claire, Leigh and young Andrew) asked us to visit Scalderskew and provide a quotation for a shepherd hut, we didn’t quite realise just how staggering the location was.

Claire’s directions were to go to Gosforth on the Lake District’s west coast and then turn right up a 4 mile long single track road up the Bleng Valley. The location is truly majestic – the farm and now site of the shepherd hut looks out across open moor and fells, uninterrupted by any sign of human activity and then across to the rear of the Wasdale fells.

Finding the perfect partner

After the Whitakers received planning consent for commercial use in June 2021, we started construction in early July for their 16’ Grisedale shepherd hut to be bespoke made. Ahead of schedule, we were ready to deliver after a busy Westmorland Show in mid-September, less than our usual 12 week build-time.

On the day of delivery, we were unfazed by the possible transportation challenges we faced with off-road track and overhanging branches on the forest trail. Although we didn’t expect to be held up by an escaped herd of Highland cattle – all in a day’s work!

Unique to you

The Scalderskew shepherd hut is clad in a subtle willow green colour and has a decking area on which those lucky enough to stay there, can sit and drink in the view with a warm mug of tea or perhaps celebrate with a glass of something stronger. Even though it has only just started to be advertised, the hut is already booking up for the year ahead!

The only way to appreciate the stunning location is to stay at Scalderskew, the web site is at www.scalderskewshepherdshut.co.uk
