‘Your help, delivered my ideas’

To install a permanent structure that would be practical, enjoyable and most importantly weather-tight.

An investment that could be treasured for future generations.

The brief

A main feature of this Cumbrian residential home was the spectacular views of ‘Old Man Coniston’ from the end of the garden, overgrown in woodland and high on a hill.

The client wanted to make the most of the views and provide a resting spot for walks around the surrounding woodland area. The brief was to install a permanent structure that would be practical, enjoyable and most importantly weather-tight. An investment that could last for future generations.

Originally, the immediate thought was to build a small summer house or log cabin. However, with a little research, the client realised that a traditional shepherd hut would suit the landscape better especially with the heritage of the traditional sheep farming area.

Finding the perfect partner

Cumbrian Shepherd Huts was the perfect fit. An important aspect of the brief was to find a local team who understood the terrain, who were able to visit the site and truly understand the requirements, aesthetics and use for this Hut.

The team were able to design and build a traditional ‘Mickleden’ shepherd hut from the initial conversation to delivering at the designated landing spot in 12 weeks.

Once aspect the client really enjoyed was the personal service received throughout - a benefit from working within a small team. Simon and the team were able to provide regular updates, focus on the smaller design details and provide full transparency of the build time.

A great feature was the computer-generated visual that was presented at the beginning of the project enabling the client to visually know with confidence what the end product was going to look like.

Unique to you

From the style and size of hut; location of doors and windows; the interior fit - this project included a handmade fold-out bed and table plus a wood burner. Inclusion of double glazing for the windows and insulation for warmth without compromising on the overall look. This particular finish was traditional, blending with the landscape.
